Root Canals:
A root canal is performed on an infected tooth and may be indicated by the following symptoms.
- sensitivity to hot and cold
- swelling or pain
- bad taste in mouth
- or no symptoms at all
A tooth may become infected by a deep cavity or by a blow to the tooth. An infection will never heal itself. It will burden the immune system and may even be life-threatening.
Root canal treatment can save the tooth. It is performed in three steps:
- Remove the infection.
- Place filling material in the root canal.
- Crown the tooth.
Root canal treatment may involve more than one appointment.
